The Bellevue Avenue Branch's ninety year old copper roof was replaced
in-kind. All detailing was replaced including decorative fascia.
The Bellevue Avenue Branch has been described as "the
most architecturally significant building owned by the Township of
Montclair." It is one of 1,689 Carnegie libraries and is listed on the
National Register of Historic Places

The Bellevue Avenue Branch Library was built in 1914 with a generous donation from Andrew Carnegie.   The land on which the branch stands was purchased with the fines the library collected in one year.

On Monday evening, December 7, 1914, the Bellevue Avenue Branch Library opened its doors to the public. A classic revival building with quartered oak woodwork and a marble floored foyer, the Branch Library has been serving its patrons for over 90 years in its neighborhood setting.

Today, the branch library continues to be used by the children from the three area schools as well as serve as a popular materials library for the local citizenry.

The branch library received two grants one from the State of New Jersey and one from Essex County - to install computers for internet access.  The library also has available computers with word processing software.

The staff at the branch library look forward to continuing to provide quality library service.
